Is it really worth it buying a used domain? Here we’re going to take a look at the value of buying a used domain.
Sometimes it’s easier to start with a used domain. It may already have some back links and social media pointing to the older website. If you’re going to buy a domain that’s been used before, before purchasing, contact the domain owner and ask if there are any social media accounts pointing to the domain. This could add immediate value to purchasing a used domain if they will also include the social media accounts with the purchase.
An established Google Plus, Facebook business page and Twitter account will already have posts and tweets, page likes and followers. Perhaps the domain also has an Instagram or Pinterest account attached to the website. This will save time, work effort and will add value to the purchase of an aged domain.
The older domain may also have some pre-existing back links pointing to the domain. Check the back link profile of the pre-used domain. Again, with a used domain name, you are not starting a “zero.”
It may also come with a Google page rank which is not set at “n/a.” This means you are already one step ahead in the game of search engine ranking.
One thing that you must do before buying a used domain is to contact the owner who is selling the domain name. In this way you may be able to negotiate the price and verify what, if any, social media accounts are attached to the used domain. If there are, ask the owner whether they can be included in the purchase. Be sure to obtain the user names and passwords for the social media accounts. Another thing an interested purchaser can do before actually buying the domain is to verify what back links already point to the website.
You can also ask the owner if they may have the content that was on the website before it was parked for sale at a domain broker website. Pre-existing content may also be available in the total purchase of the website. Social media accounts, page rank, and content adds value to the purchase of an older domain.
Is your business in a very competitive market such as health or travel or clothing? A pre-used domain can help your business in Google, Yahoo and Bing search results. If you already have a website for your business, buying a used domain in a related field can be used for SEO ranking and/or as a blog for your main business website.
What website businesses sell domains? The top three domain brokers are Sedo, GoDaddy and Flippa which sell and auction off used domain names. Staying with a top domain broker with an established reputation will ensure the website and the true owner of the domain has been verified beforehand.
